David J Foran, Ph.D.
David J. Foran, Ph.D. received a Bachelors degree in Zoology and Physics from Rutgers University in 1983 and subsequently served as a teaching assistant in the Physics department at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Between 1986 and 1988 he worked as a junior scientist at Johnson & Johnson Research, Inc. before earning his doctorate, jointly, from Rutgers University and the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in 1992. Dr. Foran holds the title of Professor of Pathology & Radiology and a co-founder and Director of the interdepartmental Center for Biomedical Imaging & Informatics at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. In 2003, he was appointed as the Associate Director of Research for the university-wide, Informatics Institute of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Foran is an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, and serves regularly as a reviewer for the American Medical Informatics Association and the Association for Pathology Informatics. He has been an invited speaker and session Chair at multiple, international conferences including, Chair of the session on "Next Generation Informatics in Diagnostic Medicine" at the 2000 World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Foran has also served as the Director of the Scientific Session for the national conference for the Association for Pathology Informatics. Dr. Foran's research focuses on developing solutions for resolving challenging problems in informatics and computational biology with an emphasis on pattern recognition, automated image interpretation, interactive telemedicine, and computer-based diagnostics in pathology and radiology. |
